On Saturday I went for a ride south towards Salem and Independence, Oregon. I rode over to the Independence Cinema and grabbed a few pictures of a project I did the engineering several years back. The theater is owned by Prestige Theaters and is located in the heart of downtown Independence. Prestige also own the theater in Sandy, Oregon and this is an almost exact copy of that theater. They also have a theater located in Battle Ground, Washington.
The construction of the theater consist of steel open-web girders and joist with metal decking. They are supported with steel columns on the interior and concrete masonry walls around the perimeter which also act as the lateral force resisting system for the building. The architectural feature on the front is constructed of steel to frame in the glass and the curved roof. This theater is unique in that it also contains a small apartment at the project level.
This is the first cinema I have done thus far and look forward to working on others should the need arise.
